Happy


This picture was taken at the Chicago Art Museum while I was visiting Chicago. It is a relic from the Chinese...or maybe some other Asian country (I can't remember).I believe it was to bring a person who had died good luck, not necessarily good luck but something like that. It was buried with the person to keep them company mostly. I just fell in love with it and want one of my own but since I don't even know what it is called I'm not sure how to track it down. But i love it and everyday I see it on my phone and smile. Doesn't he look so happy!

It's called the Entertainer and its a Chinese tomb figure from the Northern Dynasties.

And, you're right, figures such as this one were common in ancient Chinese burials. It's part of the Chinese belief in life after death. People were buried with things that they might need in the next life (servants, horses, etc). In this case, perhaps the person wanted to be kept entertained in the next life... That idea should make you happy :)
